The neighborhood is ethnically mixed. Originally there was a large Irish immigration, then Italian. Over the last 20 years many South American and Asian immigrants have made their mark, as reflected in numerous ethnic restaurants, convenience stores, a Buddhist temple a couple blocks away, churches with services in various languages, and various small businesses.
A five minute walk from here there is the first Public library in the USA. Next to the library is Central Square, where there is a Shaw's, Blockbuster, CVS, Walgreen's, Radio shack, popular fast food places, a hardware store, many hair salons.
There is a wide mix of nationalities and ethnicities. It is a residential neighborhood with many families and children. I, my daughter, and my tenants have always felt safe here and are thankful (to whom, Whomever is responsible;).. that we have lived here peacefully without ever an incident.
The neighborhood is generally very quiet and peaceful during the day. There is a high school across the street that erupts for 15 min around 2pm with exuberant students. We are near the Airport but fortunately none of the runways are pointed in our direction. However, there are rare occasions when the planes circle and can be quite loud if you are outside.
